Vineyards: The vineyards are situated 100km east of Lisbon close to the Spanish
border and the beautiful town of Evora; they were planted between 2001 and
2003.
Climate & Soil: The Alentejo is where Portugal's climate finally escapes the
Atlantic influence, and the scenery changes to large, gently undulating plains
that experience hot summers and cold winters more typical of continental
weather systems with the potential to make extrovert, ripe wines with a taste of
the sun about them. The soils are from clay and Schist (35%) and Magnesium
sedimentary clay-loam.
Winemaker: team led by Nuno Franco
Winemaking: Grapes are picked by machine during the evening. Pre -
fermentation Maceration during 2 to 3 days. Fermentation in open Vats (lagares)
and in small vats with controlled temperature between 25ºC a 35ºC.
After fermentation maceration during 1 to 2 weeks. |
Ageing: 50% of the wine during 6 months in French and American Oak.
Winemakers tasting notes: This wine suggests a complex aroma of wood fruits
and White flowers with chocolate and coconut taste. On the palate it presents a
well-balanced and rounded flavor with a rich taste of fruit and spices.
Food Pairings:This wine matches with red or white meat, game, soft cheeses
and pasta.
Serve: The wine is ready to drink now or in the next 3 years. Serve at 16°C (61°F)
